Situated in rural northwest Massachusetts, Stump Sprouts is a rustic, multi-season
resort and retreat center.
The center of the resort is our hand crafted guest lodge, converted
dairy barn, and 200 year old farmhouse.Classical Cross Country Skiing-for lodge guests and day visitors Twenty-five kilometers of trails ranging from gently rolling groomed and track-set loops to challenging back-country routes await skiers of all abilities. A favorite desination is the summit of Lone Boulder Hill, where a large glacial boulder stands guard near a breathtaking 3 state vista. Don't let the lack of snow in your backyard fool you; high elevation here assures some of the best natural snow conditions in Southern New England. Twenty years of constant refinement of the trail system and grooming equipment have resulted in great skiing, even when you'd least expect it. The emphasis in developing this exciting trail system has always been to blend exhilarating outdoor fun with a sensitvity towards the natural environment. Snowshoeing
Those seeking enjoyment in the winter woods at a slower pace can snowshoe
on our trails as well. Both adult and children's snowshoes are available
for rent.Winter Weekends From late December to mid-March, we offer one of the most affordable weekend packages anywhere. Six meals (the great food is reason enough to come!), accommodations in one of our cozy bedrooms, and skiing from our door are included in one low price. There are plenty of things to do even if it doesn't snow. For alpine skiiers and snowboarders, Berkshire East Ski Area has continously enlarged its snowmaking system and is only a few minutes away. Often one can skate on one of several pristine ponds in the nearby state forest (we loan skates). There are numerous winter hiking possibilities as well. Set off on your own or enjoy a guided hike and learn more about the woods in winter with Lloyd. Touring the village of Shelburne Falls and other picturesque New England towns in the area is another favorite activity. In fact, many of our "old standbys" return year after year and don't ski at all!
